2020.12.02 15:49 cbekel3618 Here is my rough pitch for the story of Spider-Man 3 (Act Three-The Finale)

For Act One, you can click right here.
For Part One of Act Two, you can click right here.
For Part Two of Act Two, you can click right here.
To quickly catch you guys up, Peter is now a fugitive on the run as a large bounty has been placed on his head by Mac Gargan, with the entire criminal underground after him. This includes Max Dillon (Electro), one of Gargan's goons who wants to rise up in the ranks, Kraven, a hunter who believes Peter will be the perfect prey for him to hunt, and Dmitri (The Chameleon), Kraven's shape-shifting brother after the money from the bounty.
In a fight to recapture EDITH from the government, the glasses are destroyed and Peter is kidnapped by Kraven and Dmitri. Kraven explains to Peter that he believes that he has nothing else in life outside of the hunt and that if he kills Peter, he will be seen as an honorable hunter. Peter escapes and is nearly killed by an avalanche. He hitchhikes out of New York and ends up hiding out in a homeless shelter. Meanwhile, Electro finally gets tired of Gargan and nearly kills him, taking over Gargan's gang.

Onto the grand finale, Act Three!
At the homeless shelter, Peter is cared for by the others there and is appreciative of their generosity. As they ask what happened to him, like in Civil War when he lies to May about where he was, he makes up a story about what happened to him. In the middle of the conversation, he thinks back to Strange’s offer and asks to borrow a phone, where he calls Strange.
Strange explains that he’s been busy dealing with being interrogated by the police, which is why he couldn’t help Peter during the raid on the truck. Peter explains that he thought it over and says yes to Strange’s offer. He can’t do this anymore. He needs his name cleared and he’s considering giving up being Spider-Man for good afterwards, maybe even leaving New York for good to make sure everyone he loves is safe. Strange states that he needs to go get the items needed for the spell, which are located outside of New York (possibly even outside of Earth) and hangs up.

Wondering if he made the right choice, Peter asks one of the people at the shelter for advice, still keeping his identity a secret.
One of the people there, a homeless person or someone helping at the center (maybe played by another Spider-Man actor as a cameo), tells a story to Peter. Maybe it could be that they explain that a while back, a little bit before the Snap, they were in a rough place, thinking everything was hopeless and that they should give up on everything. But one day, “a weird kid in a red-and-blue suit” saved their life on a ship sinking into the ocean. The “kid” could’ve run, he could’ve done nothing, but he still arrived to save the day, even when he could’ve died, and it inspired them to keep persevering, to keep pushing forward.
Through the conversation, Peter realizes he can’t take Strange's offer. He can’t take the easy way out of this. He needs to go back to New York and stop all of this. So, he calls up his friends and begins trekking back home.

Meanwhile, we see an argument between Kraven and Dmitri where we see Kraven break down, showing how much he wished he was able to kill Peter himself. Dmitri, on the other hand, is scared of what will happen to Kraven now and wants him to move on with his life and return to his family. This is when Electro busts in and catches them off-guard, saying he didn’t find Peter’s body in the woods. While Kraven is visibly relieved by this, he’s also unnerved by Max, who is now just crackling with electricity.
Max announces that the bounty is now off and explains his plans. All his life, he wanted respect. From family, friends, his boss. Now, with these powers and after seeing Kraven in action, he wants to take a page from Kraven’s book and kill Peter himself in front of the world, believing it will cement him as the new boss of the criminal underworld of New York.
Kraven, believing it is his right to kill Peter, is quickly knocked out by Electro to make sure he doesn’t pose a problem for him. Dmitri gets knocked out as well. During Electro’s attack, the sparks from his blasts end up reactivating the tracker in Peter’s suit.

Meanwhile, Peter arrives back in Queens and is able to meet up with May, MJ, Ned, and Happy. Beaten-up and tired, Peter begins recounting his backstory and why he became Spider-Man, finally addressing the origin story and Uncle Ben. This isn’t meant to be just a way of pleasing fans, it’s a way of showing that Peter is remembering why he first became Spider-Man, why New York needs him. This is his home and he needs to protect it. May breaks down and the two hug.
Peter asks if the tracker for his make-shift suit is still on. Happy says yes and Peter quickly explains that he might have an idea, something that involves Dmitri.
But if he’s going to pull this off, he’s going to need a suit. Luckily, Happy’s got him covered.
We cut to the back of Happy's car where he pulls out a suitcase for Peter. We don't see what's inside the case but Happy explains that because the suit's a little worn out and hasn't gone through much maintenance in some time, the AI, navigation systems, or any of the special functions probably won't work. Peter grins and simply says he won't need any of it.

Electro appears in Times Square and begins sucking energy from it, projecting himself onto the many screens to gain Peter’s attention and show off his power. However, on a little screen in the corner, Peter is there on a news broadcast by the Daily Bugle. Slowly, all of the screens in Times Square begin showing Peter on top of the building behind Electro…
Wearing the red-and-blue suit.
We get a fight scene where we see Peter and Electro fight, involving a lot of fun swinging scenes and effects. In the middle of it, not only do we get news choppers on the scene, with one of them being the Daily Bugle (who we learn that MJ and Ned called up), but we get police choppers firing at Peter.
In the middle of the chaos, other gangsters and criminals begin entering the scene. This could be a fun scene full of cameos from lesser known villains. But now, we have Peter going up against Electro and a horde of villains and gangsters with different weapons/powers. This includes Toomes’s gang, with a fully-suited-up Shocker and a fully-geared up Tinkerer.

Meanwhile, Happy and May, using the tracker from Peter’s suit, find Kraven and Dmitri’s hideout and find Dmitri there, only now waking up. Here, I love the idea of May threatening him to get him to hand over his shape-shifting tech and go along with their plan. However, they notice Kraven isn’t there. We cut to Kraven on his way to the city, ready to face off with Peter.

The fight continues to get crazier and crazier as in the middle of the chaos, all of New York is watching, seeing Peter as the hero, seeing him fighting off all of these criminals. We can see some of the people who Peter saved over the course of the movie rooting for Peter, cheering him on as he tackles all of these villains, using each of their their tech against one another. At one point, he even manages to steal some of Tinkerer’s Chitauri bombs.
Even Electro is getting overwhelmed as he now has to fight off against these competitors. Maybe Gargan can also appear in the fight, still injured but desperate to kill Peter, but is taken out by Electro, knocked out for good.

In the middle of the fight, May and Happy return with Dmitri and his tech with them, meeting up with MJ and Ned. Here, they go over the plan and decide to give one of Chameleon’s spare masks to MJ (as a reference to her being an actress in the comics).

Back at the Daily Bugle building, we see Jameson, Betty, and Flash preparing to board a chopper to cover the story themselves. However, before they can board, Kraven leaps in and steals it for himself. I have this idea for a funny moment where Jameson goes off on him, yelling like he usually does, and Kraven, mildly annoyed, simply gives him a swift chop to the throat or knocks him out. Flash and Betty, not wanting to fight, simply let him steal it.

Meanwhile, while Peter manages to take down most of the bad guys piling onto him, Electro is able to grab him and fly off, electrocuting Peter in mid-air and preparing to kill him. Before he can do so, Kraven appears in his chopper and begins getting in the middle of the fight, using whatever weaponry he has to attack them. Over the course of the fight, we see Peter repeatedly escape Electro’s grasp and swing through the city only to be recaptured by Electro or end up on top of Kraven’s chopper.
Eventually, the fight is taken out of the city and Peter ends up escaping both of their grasps and free-falling from the sky. Through either gliders in his suit or his webs, he’s able to land safely and discover he’s landed on Liberty Island, right on top of the Statue of Liberty (this idea was inspired by this piece of concept art.)
Unable to control his anger, Electro fires at Kraven’s chopper and destroys it. Before it blows up, Kraven leaps out of it and grabs onto Max, the two duking it out in mid-air before Kraven manages to escape Max’s grasp and grab onto the statue.
Now, we’ve got Peter, Kraven, and Electro fighting on top of the statue, the police after Peter in their own choppers, May, Happy, MJ, and Ned on their way to the island with Dmitri in tow, Jameson, Flash, and Betty on their way with cameras and everything and a resurrected Mysterio back from the dead-! Nah, he isn’t there, but pretty much, everyone’s converging onto Liberty Island.

Both Kraven and Electro begin hunting Peter both inside and outside of the Statue as both are now out for blood. In the middle of it, Kraven begins just breaking down, demanding Peter give him his perfect hunt. Instead, Peter, learning from before, decides not to play into Kraven’s game and instead dodges every attack from Kraven. Finally, Peter dodges one of Electro’s blasts, letting it hit Kraven and almost send him falling. He’s able to grab onto the railing before he can plummet to his death.
Kraven, weakened and feeling like he’s been taken for a fool, almost lets go. However, rather than let him die, Peter grabs him and pulls him up, webbing him to the floor. As Electro grabs Peter and drags him outside to the top of the statue, Kraven looks astonished that the boy bothered to save his life.

Meanwhile, on a STARK speedboat, MJ, Happy, May, and Ned head towards the island, with Dmitri in handcuffs. However, Dmitri is able to get himself out of the cuffs and tries to escape. This could lead to a fun little fight scene as we see Peter’s friends fight against Dmitri, with Dmitri uncontrollably shape-shifting as a result of them beating him over the head. At one point, May just goes nuts and is able to knock Dmitri off of his feet. Here, she tries to convince him to go along with this plan as she can tell that, kind of like her, he doesn’t want to see his family get hurt. Dmitri, albeit reluctantly, agrees to aid them, not because he cares about Peter, but because he doesn’t want his brother to die.

Peter and Electro fight on the top of the statue, with Electro slamming the kid around and insulting him, belittling Peter like everyone else belittled him all of his life. When he’s distracted, Peter begins pulling out some of the Chitauri bombs he stole from Shocker and prepares to use them on Electro. He’s able to throw a couple at Max and they weaken him a little, but he loses the final bomb in the struggle, as it falls off of the statue.
Electro grins, preparing to kill Peter as a bunch of news choppers are recording, as all of New York is watching. However, before he can land the final blow, Kraven appears and throws the final bomb to Peter. As Electro is distracted, Peter lands a kick to Electro’s chest, flips off, grabs the bomb in mid-air, and fires several strands of webbing at the crown of the statue.
Pulling back, he uses the webbing as a slingshot and lets himself crash into Max, sending the two into the air. Peter can give a witty quip before webbing the bomb to Max’s chest and kicking himself off of Max. The bomb goes off and Max’s powers begin going crazy as he begins shorting out. Peter, Kraven, and the choppers filming are able to escape before he explodes, dropping to the floor, still alive but powerless.

Peter grabs both Kraven and Max and makes it off of the statue, where he’s awaited by a horde of reporters and policemen, including Jameson. However, before any of them can arrest him, MJ arrives disguised as Peter. Pretending to be Peter, she begins making up a story on the fly. Since they know they can’t prove that Mysterio was really a bad guy and that he orchestrated the attack on London, they go for the next best thing: pin the attack on London on Kraven, Dmitri, and Electro.
“Peter” tells everyone that Kraven and Dmitri used their skills to steal EDITH and launch the attack and that Electro was the big lightning monster that attacked the bridge. They killed Mysterio and used Dmitri’s tech to shapeshift into Spider-Man to pin the blame on him. Then, to further draw the blame away from them, they pretended to be Beck and chose “some random kid” (Peter) to act as the scapegoat, kidnapping “Peter” to make him appear even more suspicious to the world. To help prove her story, Dmitri, going along with the plan and using his own mask, begins shape-shifting into Spider-Man and Beck.
As Dmitri goes along with the story, he shares a glance with Kraven, who, starting to feel respect for Peter, goes along with it as well. Electro denies any of it and tries to call BS on the story, but he as well as Kraven and Dmitri are arrested and taken away. Before he’s taken away, Kraven turns to the real Peter and gives a look of respect to the boy.

Jameson, still not believing any of this, begins yelling, demanding that Spidey takes off his mask and show who he is. Instead, Peter, turning to his friends and family, says no. He says that it doesn’t matter who he is under the mask. That he’s just a kid from Queens looking to protect his home. This is his home. His responsibility.
With that, he fires a web at a helicopter passing by and swings off. Before we cut away, Flash can have a moment where he jokes with “Peter”, saying he knew a nerd like him could never be Spider-Man. MJ can give a very surly, “un-Peter”-like response, taking Flash aback. This could either be a simple joke or it could actually clue Flash in that Peter might actually be Spider-Man.

We cut to some time later where at the Parker apartment, Peter is preparing to head off to school for the first time in a while. Before he heads out, May can quickly hug him and tell him how proud she is of him.
We cut Midtown High where we see Peter finally returning to school for his senior year. He reunites with MJ and Ned as we see the trio back together. We can have a quick moment where MJ and Peter talk about how, now that Peter’s now longer a criminal, maybe they can continue that date of theirs. We can also have a short scene where Flash welcomes Peter back right before going right back to bullying him yet again.
We see Peter returning to his normal life in class in a moment kind of like in that scene Spider-Man: Homecoming where we saw a day in Peter’s normal life with him impatient to leave and go out on patrol. Only this time, instead of being fast-paced with Peter distracted and impatiently waiting for the day to be over, we see Peter genuinely enjoying his day and being patient, showing how he’s now appreciating the world around him.

As the school day ends, we cut to him on top of a building when suddenly, the world around him enters the Mirror Dimension. He turns to see Doctor Strange appear, congratulating him on no longer being a fugitive. He apologizes for being unable to help Peter in the final fight. Once again, he offers Peter the chance to wipe everyone’s minds of his identity just to be sure, saying he still has the items needed for the spell.
Peter, believing everything’s okay now and that he now has a grasp on how to handle his secret identity more carefully, turns down the offer, but Strange lets him know the offer’s always available. Peter thanks Strange for everything as the doctor leaves. Peter takes one long look at the city and notices something on one of the buildings around him.

Next to the giant mural of Iron Man that we saw in Far From Home is now a giant mural of Spider-Man. A smile crosses Peter’s face as he dons the mask and leaps down as we get our big swinging sequence around New York.

Peter Parker is back. Spider-Man is back. He’s home.

Mid-Credits Scene:
At a hospital, we see J. Jonah Jameson sitting on a chair, fuming about what happened and still believing that Spider-Man is a menace.
Someone sits down next to him and states that like him, they agree. They think that Spider-Man is a villain and that he must be stopped. And with Jameson’s help, they can put an end to the wall-crawler once and for all. Jameson asked what the hell this person is talking about and is guided to another room in the hospital.
In the room, lying unconscious on a hospital bed is Mac Gargan, in horrible shape from his fight with Electro. Jameson is still confused as the mystery person simply says:
“New York wants a hero? Let’s give them one.
As for the identity of said mystery person, it can be anyone, male or female. Norman Osborn, Doc Ock, Fisk, but personally, I think it should be Smythe, foreshadowing that the fourth movie is going to be dealing with Scorpion and the Spider-Slayers.

Post-Credits Scene:
Honestly, this can be about anything. Oscorp. Spider-Verse. Set-up for the Sinister Six. Set-up for the next Avengers movie. Set-up for Miles Morales coming to the MCU. Anything.

So what do you guys think of my pitch? Do you think this would work for the story of Spider-Man 3? I would love to hear any comments.

2020.12.02 15:48 InMemoryOfMyself ENTP here: collecting data for astrology project and believe when you're born plays huge factor for your type.

Hello all I'm an ENTP working on an astrology based project and believe I have found through correlation data that when exactly you are born plays a big factor in your type. I'll leave a post down below that shows an example of what I've been looking into but basically looking at birth charts of famous people, friends, strangers, etc it seems certain zodiac signs (there are 12) correlate to certain energy. In particular for xxNJ types (the rarest four types) and ENFJs, the second rarest type, most rare feeler, and most rare extroverted intuitive feeler those who have multiple placements in their birth charts for the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) as well as Virgo seem to correlate to high Ni. These five signs while obviously having many positives are generally the most "stubborn", the least open to change or new information, partially distrusting of others, "secretive" and generally believe in their own beliefs above all else.
I believe the exact time you are born determines whether you'll be an introvert or extrovert (obviously some people are on the border) and your judgment functions ie. XXFJ / XXTP or XXFP / XXTJ and then the whole nurture upbringing thing comes into play. For ENFJs for example based on when you were born you had four possible choices out of the 16 types ENFJ, ESFJ, ENTP, or ESTP. I don't want to give out a bunch of confusing astrology terms so I'll simply say there are six "main" placements. Your sun sign is your core personality, your moon sign is your emotions, your rising sign is how you present yourself in the outside world (ie the way you talk to your best friend/family and the way you talk to random stranger #27 is generally different), mercury (communication), venus (things related to love), mars (drive/ how you go about your life) Have enough introvert placements and you're probably an introvert.
https://www.reddit.com/entj/comments/i50s9do_zodiac_signs_correspond_with_mbti_types/g0q8syo?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Here's an old post of mine where I just looked up birth charts of famous people and then their most commonly agreed on mbti type.
There is a scale for the 12 zodiac signs from most introverted to most extroverted and some signs have specific energy present that correlate to judgment functions. For example many people with multiple Capricorn or Aries placements have high Te, Pisces is generally high Fi, Sagittarius and Gemini (high Ti)
If anyone knows their exact time of birth, location of birth, and their actual birthday and is willing to share that info I'd love to have it. If anyone doesn't have that info and is a sign that isn't one of these five: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius, or Virgo I'd like to know that too.
Thanks for reading! Happy to answer questions!

2020.12.02 15:44 Axia_mouse Axia Protocol Announcement, [02.12.20 08:13]

Axia Announcement, 2/12:

To all holders,

Axia has seen a lot over the last 24 hours which will be addressed here along with our plan moving forward. Today we stand stronger than ever and it will be a day that marks a milestone for us to surpass over the coming months

  1. El Chapo Resignation
Our interim CEO El Crypto Chapo has resigned from his post after four weeks - with a lack of communication from Dev and Admin, and lack of full control being cited as the reason. From our knowledge he has exited his Axia position prior to his announcement and departure. We appreciate all his hard work thus far and wish him well in his future endeavors.

  1. Stronger Commitment from AxiaDev and Admin
Discussions in our chat have unveiled that the community would like a greater presence from Dev and Admin in telegram. From this moment, the development team plans to be more present within the telegram chat.

  1. Partnership with Predictz
Following the resignation of El Chapo, our partnership was thrown into question with Predictz pulling out. We have opened productive dialogue in which Predictz has detailed that they are committed in fulfilling their commitment to us. This means the partnership is still on, and Dev work done with their assistance will be implemented as the dust settles.

  1. Team Position
For the interim, Zee no (myself) will take lead until the community, you, deem fit. Adrian.eth is committed to Axia and will take on development for Axia, along with AxiaDev and AxiaAdmin who are now able to further their commitment to Axia. Our media team including Mouse, and Dropbear are ever present along with other team members. We will be looking to add to the team over the next few days, however will keep it lean so we can run agile and get things moving.

  1. Our Plan
The next 24 hours we will be formulating a concrete plan for a short term to release to you all. A long term plan will be developed in due time. Funds are being accrued to execute our plan.

  1. Rebranding
Axia has been tainted with a lot of negative press and issues in the past. The protocol and goals remain the same, however investor sentiment is important in the crypto world. We are not naive to this and the idea of rebranding has been floated. A new face, a fresh start. We would love your opinions on this matter.

  1. What about everything that was promised?
We have our UI which is near completion (for real), and dApp which is being worked on. We aim to have this completed within a week however with the float of the rebrand this may be delayed slightly to allow us to make changes to the UI to reflect our new brand. Changes will be made to staking following the planned rework previously announced and new pools to be added. A concrete timeline will be released which will outline these along with a marketing outline. Our White Paper has been kindly picked up by a new team member, yourfacemyfoot, who will be completing this over the coming week.

We know it’s a lot to digest and we appreciate you all for having faith in the Axia team, we would like to reaffirm that it’s business as usual and the community seems stronger than ever. This time it won’t be just words, we will show you action. Thanks to all members who have stepped up to the plate and offered their time! Lets get it!

Much Love,

Team Axia

2020.12.02 15:41 bobbness Tasha’s Cauldron, Session 0: Social Contract

This post is based on this video if you prefer to watch/listen :)
Starting your campaign with a session zero is the best way to make sure everyone in your group will have fun! And Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is the first book in Dungeons and Dragons 5e to include guidelines for this very special session! So let’s walk through these “official session zero rules” and compare them to my ultimate session zero checklist!

What is a Session 0?

A session zero is important because it’s where you discuss everyone’s expectations for the game. It is how you learn what your players want so you can tailor the experience to them, and keep them invested over time by aligning everyone’s expectations for the gaming schedule, playstyle, character and setting preferences, house rules, and table etiquette…and this is pretty much how it’s defined in Tasha’s Cauldron.
A special session...to establish expectations, outline the terms of a social contract, and share house rules. Making and sticking to these rules can help ensure that the game is a fun experience for everyone involved.
But after that definition, they go right into character and party creation which I saved for last, and I’m sticking to it. Before you worry about bonding your characters, you have to bond your players!

Team Building

My checklist begins with a super short teambuilding exercise to get your group thinking like a team.
  1. Everyone shares something they love about rpgs
  2. Share if you’re most excited about combat, exploration and puzzles, or roleplay.
  3. Share one strength YOU bring to the group as a player, with the DM encouraging everyone to share strengths they see in each other.
This icebreaker is perfect if you’re playing with a new group, and it’s fun to do even if you play with close friends or family. Bonding over your love for the game and appreciation for your fellow players will keep everyone coming back to the table way better than cool monsters and character abilities, so focus on the people first.

Scheduling & One-player Games

Then the next topic on my list is scheduling, which is also really important to keep everyone coming back to the table! Not having a regularly scheduled game is the number one killer of D&D campaigns. So you’ll want to discuss the expected duration of the campaign, how often you’ll play, how long sessions will be, where you’ll play or what online tools everyone needs, and what to do with the character of an absent player.
Scheduling (and really this whole session zero process) is super easy if you’re only playing with one other person. There’s a little section about that in Tasha’s Cauldron which pretty much just says they should use sidekicks and explains what sidekicks are at a very basic level. Fortunately for you, I have some resources for that if you're interested.

THE SOCIAL CONTRACT

Next, Wizards of the Coast dives headfirst into what they call THE SOCIAL CONTRACT!
You will respect the players by running a game that is fun, fair, and tailored for them. You will allow every player to contribute to the ongoing story and give every character moments to shine. When a player is talking, you are listening. The players will respect you and the effort it takes to create a fun game for everyone. The players will allow you to direct the campaign, arbitrate the rules, and settle arguments. When you are talking, the players are listening. The players will respect one another, listen to one another, support one another, and do their utmost to preserve the cohesion of the adventuring party. Should you or a player disrespect each other or violate the social contract in some other way, the group may dismiss that person from the table.
Wow! I do believe THIS is the most important part of keeping the game fun for everyone, but rather than having a “direct conversation” as suggested in the book, I really think you should ease into this subject, so my list has a bunch of practical behaviors that everyone should agree upon like eating at the table, using phones at the table, retconning character actions, player vs. player actions, and rpg pet peeves which smoothly segues into setting a rating for the game (PG, PG13, R) and consequences for breaking these agreements.
One thing recommended by Tasha’s Cauldron that I might start doing is to “compile the limits into one list that can be shared with the whole group” of course, in a respectful and anonymous way. This book also inspired me to be more proactive about re-assessing limits during my campaign check-ins, which I’ve mostly only used to ask about the story direction and my players’ characters. And just like in my checklist, this idea of steering the story and character development leads into game customization!

Game Customization

Obviously, Wizards doesn’t dwell on this topic because the company thrives on selling pre-written campaigns, but I called this section the campaign framework because it’s where you find out what kind of setting and what kind of adventure your players want to play-- "Wait, Bob you’re saying that my players might have more fun if we play a homebrew campaign with magic, technology, environments, and themes completely tailored to their wants and playstyles instead of making them play whatever’s in the newest book?"
Yeah! But that’s why most of my YouTube channel is dedicated to redesigning pre-written campaigns to be more fun for your group. This is also where you need to talk about house rules, and Tasha’s Cauldron just kind of tells you to read the section about house rules in the Dungeon Masters Guide, but I gotchu. This part of the free checklist includes most of the big topics that groups do differently: character stats, level advancement, hit points, alignment, racial bonuses-- which is a big topic covered in another chapter of Tasha’s, and others like character race and class restrictions, because only after you’ve agreed upon what kinds of characters everyone can play, can you now circle back to character and party creation!

CharacteParty Creation

The book says “you should encourage [your players] to choose different classes so that the adventuring party has a range of abilities.” And while there’s always a benefit to diversity, this advice flies in the face of my desire to play in a rock band party of all aarakocra bards, so I choose to ignore it. Though I love the advice on party formation! We’ve spent our whole session 0 getting the players on the same page, so now we get their characters on the same page! It includes a great table of suggested party origins: like they grew up together, they have a common foe or ally, they met at a funeral or a festival or are trapped somewhere together!
I always ask my players to choose at least one other player character in the party and one non-player character in the world that they have some relationship with. Tasha’s Cauldron adds a few helpful questions like: what keeps them together? What do they like about each other? And do they share a patron? These group patrons from chapter two can give your party quests and a bunch of other benefits-- but that’s another post/video!
So if you liked this one, please consider checking out the video and my session 0 checklist. Thank you for your support, and keep building :D

2020.12.02 15:36 crypto_grandma Let's share our favorite crypto resources (tools, apps, websites, books, videos etc.)

I thought it would be a good idea if people could share some of their favourite crypto resources with the rest of the community, whether it's something that people who are new to crypto could find helpful, or people who have been in the game a while, as there are always new developments and things to learn.
I remember when I first got into crypto, I didn't know there were any such things as portfolio tracker apps (such as Delta and Blockfolio) and I used to write my holdings on a piece of paper! My list is far from extensive, it's just a few basic tools and educational videos I have personally found helpful and occasionally recommend to newcomers, so please add your favourite crypto resources in the comments below!
(I remember a while back someone shared an animated visualisation of live Bitcoin buy and sell orders that was great to look at. I can't find it now, so if someone here can share it here that would be appreciated!)
Bitcoin dollar cost average tool I love this tool and I've shared it with a couple of people who were considering getting into Bitcoin for the first time. Fun fact: if you had invested $200 per month since the (previous?) ath on December 2017 you would have accumulated almost 1 BTC for a total of $7,200 (+165%).
Satoshi to usd converter In the future, a "millionaire" will be someone who has 1,000,000 sats. Currently 1 million sats will set you back $191, so get them while they're still cheap :)
Coin time machine which tells you how much you'd have made if you had invested 'x' amount of money in various alts. For example: If you had invested $1000 in Ethereum on this date 4 years ago, you would have got 129 eth currently worth $75,625.
CoinGecko app: I only just added this after hearing they added Moons, but I really like it. I'm not really one for looking at charts, but it comes in handy when I do want to take a look at the price history, and I didn't realise you could use it as a portfolio tracker, so that was a nice surprise. Oh and 'candies', lol.
Portfolio apps: Delta, Blockfolio, Coin Stats (I've literally just downloaded CoinStats so haven't had much time to give it a proper look, but what I love about this app is you can add our beloved cryptocurrency Moons on it!)
Bitcoin documentaries & Interviews:
Andreas Antonopoulos on Joe Rogan 2016
Andreas Antonopoulos on London Real 2019
Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It
Banking on Bitcoin
How does Bitcoin actually work?
Books:
I recently read the book Bitcoin Billionaires about how the Winklevoss twins discovered Bitcoin and created their Gemini exchange, which was an entertaining read. Here are some other books that were recently recommended to me, although I must admit I haven't gotten around to reading them yet:
The Bitcoin Standard, The Infinity Machine, Mastering Bitcoin, Digital Gold.
Audiobook: Bitcoin: The Future of Money
And most importantly of all, a live countdown timer to when John McAfee will most probably have to eat his penis. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you The Dickening

2020.12.02 15:35 hirpees Where can I get Kaki Persimmon?

Persimmons are one of the very few things in life I love so much. The fruits have a gorgeous warm bright orange color to them, their shapes are absolutely beautiful, and the best part is that they taste just divine.
There are the common fuyu persimmon and hachiya persimmon, but there is also the Kaki/Japanese Persimmon (which looks like a hachiya, but more yellow) that I have a harder time sourcing. I know No Frills recently sold some of the Kaki/Japanese Persimmon but the store at Alma recently sold out (not sure if they'll restock), but does anyone know any where else to get more of these kaki persimmons?

P.S, if you ever get the hachiya, please wait until they look like they're on the brink of decomposition (absolutely dark flesh and squishy), that's when it'll lose all its astringent taste and transform into the most sweet fruit you'll ever taste! This is a fruit worth investing your time in!)

Thanks!

2020.12.02 15:30 Tyasaa Christmas present for my boyfriend

Hi there!
I’m looking for Christmas presents for my boyfriend and I want to support Etsy businesses so please share your shops with me.
What I’m looking for:
He is from Australia and can’t go home for Christmas so I want to buy him something related to Australia.
He really loves Aussie themed socks so I’m specifically looking for those types of socks.
He is also into stock market at the moment so maybe something related to that.
He is a backpacker so presents that would be useful for backpackers.
Preferably shipped from the UK but I’m open to anything if the shipping is cheap enough and is shipped before Christmas.
I also have my own Etsy store and I’m also willing to trade if anyone is interested. my Etsy Shop

2020.12.02 15:30 bayushiakira No lands: A deck I built with my cEDH cards for my casual table

My commander table is decidedly casual, both in deck builds and in mindset, so I don't often get to play true cEDH. I also love both Legacy and Vintage, but don't get much chance to play those, either. With that in mind, I set out to build a deck using cards for those formats in the most casual way I could: having absolutely no lands.
Since I am not using any lands, my natural thought was to build off of established decks with no lands/extremely low land count: Hermit Druid, Oops, All Spells, and Charbelcher.
I actually built this years ago, long before the advent of the new dual-faced land cards, and I still am resistant to adding any of them. I do try to keep it fresh with new cards as they come out. My commander has changed many times; it was Atogatog at first, and has been Sliver Queen, Ramos, and now Kenrith.
Decklist
I'd LOVE any advice, constructive criticism, comment, jokes, or whatever you can throw at me!

First time future custom looper here (CPU+GPU). Past month I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos for custom loop beginners and have done some research into what I want to do and buy.
This is my current build:
Here is a picture of my current configuration. The fans at the top and bottom are set for intake and the fans mounted at the side are set for exhaust. I want to keep using the Corsair Commander Pro and LL120 RGB fans in my future custom loop.
I want to do a custom loop with top and bottom radiators and a distro plate. I haven’t been able to decide what I want to do exactly and am hoping to get some advice here.

The first scenario is with the official Lian Li G1 distro plate. Here are the pros, cons and unknowns for me:

With scenario 1 I have the ability to go with two 360 radiators but if I go with scenario 2 I can only have a single 360 on top and a single 240 on the bottom. My primary question regarding the radiators is:

CPU water block

With regard to the CPU water block I’ve narrowed it down to these options, primary difference being a CPU water block or a monoblock for my motherboard and CPU.
Would a monoblock be a wise choice for a first time custom looper or would that be a step too far? I like the aesthetic of it and the price difference between the blocks is minimal. What are the pros and cons of the monoblock? Is this a wise choice or should I just get a CPU water block only? Also I would like to know if the monoblock lines up nicely with the inlet and outlet ports of both the distro plates. If anyone has experience with this I would love to know!

GPU water block

I’ve used the EK compatibility tool and narrowed it down to the following two products for my GPU loop:
Not much to say about these products, pretty much the only choice and it seems very nice. Any caveats I should be aware of before making my choice?
I’m planning to buy the Pro Tech Toolkit from iFixit. Will this toolkit give me everything I need for a video card teardown?

Tubing

I’ve read the article on the EK website regarding the differences between PETG and Acrylic tubing. As a first time custom looper it seems acrylic might be more difficult but I have a great deal of experience with PC building. I’ve decided I definitely want to do hard tubing but a couple of questions remain.
That’s it for now, I have many more questions but these seem to be on the top of my list. Hopefully you guys can help me move forward.

2020.12.02 15:26 CaspianX2 Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 for Nintendo Switch - Review

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

Genre: Action
Players: 1-4 Co-Op (Local, Local Wireless, Online)
.
Review:
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is an Action game in a series that last saw an original release in 2009, making the series' third game quite a long-awaited return to the series a decade later in 2019, and many were surprised to find that the game would be released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. As those familiar with the comics would surmise from the title, The Black Order refers to the central villains of this game's story, everyone's favorite snap-happy alien Thanos and his fanatical subordinates.
The presentation here is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, the characters themselves are lovingly detailed in a manner close to their comic book counterparts, albeit with some flourishes inspired by popular films of the last few decades. They're generally well-animated and all bear unique signature attacks, though for some characters like Guardians of the Galaxy's Drax and Gamora, this is often a somewhat uninspired bit of acrobatics or frenetic slashing effect that could be anyone's move rather than something unique to the character. However, for the most part the characters here (heroes and villains alike) are lovingly depicted in a way that does justice to the source material.
Unfortunately, many of the environments they'll be trudging through are generic, repetitive and uninteresting. However, even worse than this, the effects of various characters' attacks often call up so much in the way of speed lines and air whooshes that it can be hard to see exactly what's going on. And overall there's rarely anything here that even comes close to approaching visually impressive.
The other elements of the presentation are also a mixed bag. The soundtrack is appropriately heroic but completely forgettable, the voice acting ranges from excellent (Rocket Raccoon is particularly well-acted) to mediocre, with most being mediocre. And the story... ugh... when people talk about a story as being “like a comic book” in a derogative tone, this is the sort of story they're talking about. Shallow, lacking any real weight, and largely just an excuse to toss a huge assortment of already-established characters into a fight they'd otherwise have no business participating in together.
But you're not here for story, right? You're here to play as your favorite superhero and kick butt! So how does the game play?
It's... okay. Look, I have nothing wrong with smashing hordes of enemies with fun powers and stuff, and it doesn't need to be super-deep to still be enjoyable, but the act of fighting as some of the greatest heroes ever created and using a huge array of cool superpowers should at least feel... well, fun, shouldn't it? Instead of tedious and repetitive?
And again, I don't have a problem with repetition as long as what you're doing is inherently enjoyable – I just gave A grades to both Hades and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity when the combat of both basically boils down to using just a few buttons repeatedly against an army of foes... but in each of those games, attacks felt visceral, chained together creatively, and truly made you feel powerful. Not so here. In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, you'll likely be using the same combo attack repeatedly against enemies that are barely fazed by it, until you recharge your special attack which, again, often won't faze your enemy, at least if your enemy is anything but the most low-level thug. Oh, and those low-level thugs will still be sponges for damage, too.
The lackluster combat isn't the end of this game's problems. The character upgrade system here is both uninspired and somehow also confusing. Want to know the difference between durability and resilience? Look it up online, the game doesn't seem to want to tell you. Want to see which characters work well with which others? You need to go multiple menus deep before you can see these stat bonuses highlighted. Individual characters can gradually earn experience to upgrade their four special attacks, and your entire roster can gradually have their stats upgraded across the board, but beyond that there doesn't seem like much customization here... I can't remember the last time I played a game where so little in the way of player choice was made so needlessly confusing.
And then there's the damn camera. I tried this game out in local multiplayer (something that's always been a strength of the series) and had to dig around in menus to find the way to even enable camera control (by default, it's disabled in couch co-op). However, even when I could control the camera, it was often unhelpful, choosing odd angles or needing to be babysat so I didn't keep getting sucker-punched from behind by an enemy just offscreen.
As someone who has become a fan of Marvel's wonderful roster of heroes, I appreciate the attempt here to bring them together in a game that celebrates this wonderful and diverse multitude of characters. However, I walked away from Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 disappointed by stale, repetitive combat, shallow story, boring and repetitive locales, and terrible camera. Even those looking for a simple beat-em-up will find this game to be lacking.
tl;dr – Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is an Action game that has you fighting as one of the countless Marvel comic book heroes against the threat of Thanos and his minions. While there's a wide array of lovingly-detailed characters, the combat here is shallow, repetitive, and tedious, the camera is terrible, and there are a slew of other issues that sap the fun out of this game. As a result, only the biggest Marvel die-hards should bother with this one.

Family Therapy

Life by Design Therapy
As excited as you probably are to see your family around the holidays (whether you'll be celebrating in-person or online), you might be nervous about how spending time with your family will affect you mentally and emotionally.
Seeing family members you haven't seen in awhile sometimes means enduring awkward questions like "How's your love life?" or "When are you going to have kids?" Other times, you might feel pressured to pack your calendar with family engagements, even when you'd rather say no.
Setting firm but fair boundaries with family can help you alleviate your anxieties and enjoy the holidays without dread. Here's how:
⭐️ Be specific about the boundaries you want to set. For example, there may be a certain party you don't want to attend or a certain topic of conversation you'd rather avoid.
⭐️ Have the conversation when everyone involved is calm. Delving into boundaries while angry is a surefire recipe for conflict -- and won't help your family see you as a grown-up adult capable of making decisions for themself.
⭐️ Be kind but assertive. You do not need to compromise on boundaries that are important to you, but you can let your family know that in a respectful way. When you feel comfortable, explaining the reasoning behind your boundaries may aid your family's understanding.
It's normal not to want to disappoint your loved ones, but it's also important to uphold your boundaries for the sake of your mental health -- especially during this hectic yet exciting time of year!
If you struggle to set boundaries or say no to others, you're not alone. Contact Life by Design Therapy to learn how our expert therapists can help you define your boundaries and assert your needs in a firm but fair way.

2020.12.02 15:25 Skelezomperman [FE4 Character Discussion] Examining the Crusaders #40 - Finn, Lance of Legend

Welcome back to Examining the Crusaders, the series where we look at all of the playable characters in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Last time we looked at Leif, Prince of Leonster, who will do anything to help his people and accomplish the dream of unifying Thracia. Today we are going to look at the only character who is playable in both generations of the game, that being Finn, Lance of Legend.
------
To understand Finn, we must first review what has happened with him up until the point where he joins in the second generation. Finn appeared in the first generation as a young squire who accompanied Quan and Ethlyn to the battlefield when Sigurd first fought the Verdanians. Finn formed a close friendship with his liege Quan during that time as he proved himself to be a more than capable fighter despite his youth. He leaves Sigurd’s army after Chapter 3 along with Quan and Ethlyn when they return to Leonster to get more reinforcements. It is at some point during the end of the first generation when the Aed Massacre happens in which Quan and Ethlyn were killed by a surprise attack by Thracian dragon knights led by Travant; their daughter Altena was presumably killed as well and the legendary Gae Bolg lance was lost. Finn was not present at the time as he was instead in Leonster taking care of Quan’s infant son Leif; the incident weighed down upon him heavily as it killed his closest friends.
For the rest of the intervening period, Finn would be on the run with Leif along with various other people including Lachesis’ daughter Nanna who stuck with them after Lachesis had left in her fateful journey to get her son Diarmuid; he had been forced to raise Leif in the absence of his parents. Shortly before the beginning of Chapter 7, Leif had raised a rebellion presumably with Finn’s support; however, when the chapter begins they are in dire straits as the rebellion failed...
------
Chapter 7 introduction: Finn rides into Leonster castle. Leif asks him if he has heard anything on the status of the other division; Finn delivers the grave news that all of the soldiers who went to Alster were killed. Leif is angered to hear that their best chance had failed and says that he wants to strangle Blume now. He is stopped by Finn, who warns him to calm down as Lewyn is bringing Seliph’s liberation army to help them; until then, they will have to ride out the siege. Leif recalls that Seliph is the son of his father’s friend Sigurd and comes up with the idea that they can combine forces to fight against the Empire more effectively. Nanna agrees and adds that if they lose now, then the deaths of the soldiers at Alster will have been in vain; she suggests that they flee Leonster to the west. Leif concurs and decides to play defensive until Seliph can arrive with help.
We meet Finn here when he comes back from scouting for Leif; he is forced to deliver the devastating news that the Alster mission failed. Hearing this causes Leif to become angry and he feels an impulse to go kill Blume himself. Finn however has been through this situation before and knows better; he warns his liege to calm down as doing something rash like that would not be productive. This shows that Finn, unlike in the first generation, has gotten experience from his trials over the past 20 years.
------
Chapter 7 conversation with Larcei: Finn spots Larcei and asks her who she is; Larcei, confused, introduces herself. Finn is in a daze but Larcei asks him why he is staring at her; Finn apologizes and tells her that she looks like someone he knew. She greatly resembles his former lover who he last saw during the first war; since then, he has looked for her. Larcei asks what his lover’s name was, to which Finn responds that she was named Ayra. Larcei is caught by surprise by this and asks if he is kidding about that.
Chapter 7 conversation with Lana: Finn spots Lana and asks her who she is; Lana, confused, introduces herself. Finn is in a daze but Lana asks him why he is staring at her; Finn apologizes and tells her that she looks like someone he knew. She greatly resembles his former lover who he last saw during the first war; since then, he has looked for her. Lana asks him if she was his wife, and he replies that yes, his former lover was his wife. Lana then asks what his lover’s name was, to which Finn responds that she was named Edain. Larcei is caught by surprise by this because Edain is Lana’s mother.
Finn in Chapter 7 will have a conversation with Larcei, Lana, or Nanna if she is his daughter (i.e., Finn married Ayra, Edain, or Lachesis during the course of the first generation). The Larcei and Lana conversations are a bit more generic and are nearly identical to each other. Finn sees this girl who looks so much like the woman whom he fell in love with 20 years ago yet was forced to part with because of the war; familiar to the point of almost being her child. Of course to their surprise, Finn turns out to be their father. The conversation ends here of course as the daughter realizes that Finn is her father.
------
Chapter 7 conversation with Nanna: Finn asks Nanna how she is doing; she tells her father that she is doing fine and that he doesn’t need to worry about her. Finn remarks that Nanna is getting to be bold like her mother; it’s almost as if he was talking to Lachesis as he was 20 years before. Nanna then angrily asks Finn why he let her mother run off by herself (to Aed) if he really loved her; Finn answers that this dispute is not her business and is a private matter between himself and Lachesis. Nanna tries to interject but is interrupted by Finn, who tells her that she will understand when she is older.
Finn’s conversation with Nanna is much more interesting. Finn checks in on his daughter, and she’s confident that she doesn’t need to be checked upon because she will be fine. It reminds Finn so much about his love, about how she was always determined to do things her own way...harkening back to his interactions with her when they were both young, before everything went south. Finn trails off into reminiscing about that time before Nanna interrupts him to ask him why he let Lachesis leave by herself on her ill-fated trip to get Diarmuid. Bringing this up opens another wound for Finn and rather than talking about it, he gets Nanna to drop it by saying that what happened was between him and Lachesis alone, something which only an adult like him would understand. But it’s still a tragedy for Finn regardless of how amicable or not their separation may have been, and his reluctance to discuss what happened shows that.
------
Chapter 8 conversation with Leif: Finn tells Leif that protecting the Thracian peninsula is their duty as the remnants of House Leonster; they must persevere no matter what. Leif replies that he has always dreamed of the day when Leonster is free, the people are saved from Blume, and his father’s dreams are realized; he adds that he is prepared to die if needed to accomplish this. Finn chastises Leif for saying this as a future king like him cannot do something so rash. Leif acknowledges that Finn is right and apologizes. He recalls how Finn had worked so hard to protect him and made sacrifices in doing so, even to the point of starving himself so Leif could have food. It is only now that Leif realized that Finn had made these sacrifices, he says, and he adds that he will always be grateful to Finn. Finn tells Leif that his father had dreamt of uniting Thracia after generations of strife; while he may be gone, Leif continues to live and with him is the chance of finally uniting Thracia.
Finn lectures Leif on how they must persevere because of their duty to protect the peninsula, their duty as the heirs to Njorun’s legacy. Leif once again says something rash, this time that he would be prepared to die if it means that the dream of uniting Thracia is accomplished; Finn has to talk Leif down as it would be foolish for the symbol of the nation to die. Leif then reflects on what Finn did for him, and we see a picture of what exactly Finn was doing in those intervening 16 years between Belhalla and now. Finn had gone on the run to raise Leif who isn’t even his child and he had made sacrifices so Leif could grow up in relative comfort; he even went without food at times so Leif could eat. What dedication this is for Finn to have done all of this and take Leif in as if he were his own son! And still, even today Finn supports Leif to try to accomplish Leif’s father’s dream - the dream of bringing peace and unity to Thracia.
------
Chapter 9 introduction: Leif asks Finn if something is wrong as he has been quiet since they have left Munster; Finn responds by asking Leif if he saw a dragon knight on top of the mountains near Munster. Leif replies that yes, he did see this dragon knight and asks if there was something off with her. Finn says that he saw that she was wielding the Gáe Bolg and had an aura similar to that of Leif’s father, the aura associated with one that carries the major blood of Njorun. Leif starts to realize what Finn is insinuating and asks him to clarify what he means; Finn replies that the only possible explanation is that Altena did not in fact die at Aed and that the Gáe Bolg was not lost there either. Leif asks why Altena would be with the Thracian army; Finn infers that Altena had been taken by Travant and raised by him as his own daughter. Leif is momentarily awed that Travant, a man whom he perceives as a monster, would do something so humane. This awe is shattered when Finn continues onto why Travant would do this; he guesses that Travant had done it to have the power of the Gáe Bolg on his side. Leif is disgusted by the notion that Travant used Altena as a sort of weapon and tells Finn that he wants to somehow help her so they can avenge their parents. Finn tells Leif that he thinks that Leif is the only person who can convince her of the truth as her brother; he begs him to go open her heart and save her.
Finn saw the lady dragon knight, as did Leif, and he came to the stunning conclusion that the knight is in fact Altena, Leif’s older brother who was presumed to have been killed at Aed. Finn pauses a lot during this conversation which shows that it is difficult for him to have come to this realization, that he is still processing all of the emotions that come with this. Finn ends the conversation by begging Leif to save Altena; it shows that he is so emotionally invested in getting Altena back, and we’ll see that coming up.
------
Chapter 9 conversation with Travant: Travant greets the famous Finn and mocks him for still “clinging on to life.” Finn tells Travant to prepare himself as he will avenge his lord now; Travant retorts that a commoner like Finn could never scratch him and takes Finn fighting as a readiness to die.
Travant knows Finn somehow, and the fact that he knows who Finn is serves as a testament to how much of a legend Finn is. A warrior with no holy blood like him would normally be unacknowledged, but Finn (somewhat like Reinhardt in FE5) is just so skilled at fighting that everyone across Thracia knows of him, and Travant himself seems to want to kill him. Finn of course wants to avenge his lords.
------
Chapter 9 conversation with Altena: Finn asks for Altena’s pardon and introduces himself to her; he says that it is an honor to meet her again. Altena tells him that she has heard about him from Leif; she cannot thank him enough for what he did for Leif. Finn thanks Altena for this but extends an apology to her for not searching for her as he never thought that she would still be alive, let alone be alive so close to where they were. Finn then starts crying and Altena asks him why he is crying. Finn apologizes to her for crying in front of her. Altena then remembers a moment from when she was young and was fond of Finn, even trying to catch his attention; Finn then breaks down again.
The turning point has come for Finn. Most of his adult life has been, to put it in vulgar terms, shitty. His lords - not just his lords, his closest friends - violently killed in an inhospitable desert with him powerless to do anything, their daughter presumably dead as well; his country was taken over by Grannvale, with Finn being forced to go on the run and make sacrifices so his lords’ son could grow up well; if he married (Lachesis), his wife even was lost to the tragedy that is this story. But now, Finn finally has a good moment for him as Altena was found and brought to their side. In spite of this happiness, Finn still feels that he didn’t do enough; he can’t enjoy the moment and has to try to apologize to Altena for not searching for her. It’s irrational for one to have expected him to do this when he didn’t know of Altena still living (and Altena understands this), but for Finn nothing less than perfection is acceptable.
And yet here is when the emotions finally overwhelm Finn. For seventeen years Finn had to hold in his grief, sadness, and angst that came from all these terrible things, and he did do that as he showed only the blank thousand yard stare. But as Finn apologizes to Altena, the floodgates open, and Finn finally cries to let out all of the emotions; not even his pride as a knight could stop him. Altena recalling her moment with him as a child only worsens it as all of the memories of the good times he had before all this started flow back to him; Finn finally has a good release of all of his emotions that he has desperately needed - and deserved, for the good work he has put in for everyone around him.
------
Ending if Leif is alive: Finn will tell Seliph that he is going home just as Leif is and wishes him the best health. Seliph will thank Finn for aiding his family for over 20 years; Finn will say that he is merely a servant of House Leonster who has followed his lieges. Seliph tells Finn that Thracia is in his hands and hopes that he will assist Leif in rebuilding; Finn responds that he will do all he can to accomplish Quan’s dream of Thracia becoming peaceful.
Finn finally gets to go home, but his journey is not yet over: he will continue to faithfully come to Leif’s assistance as his lord takes on the task of rebuilding Thracia. He takes no credit for what he’s done of course because he is that devoted to the knightly virtue of humility; all he wants to do is look forward to the future that they have all earned but which work must still be put towards.
------
Ending if Leif is dead: Finn will tell Seliph that he is going home and wishes him the best health. Seliph will thank Finn for aiding his family for over 20 years; Finn will say that he is merely a servant of House Leonster who has followed his lieges. However, he adds that he is a disgrace as he failed to protect Leif when he needed him most. Seliph tells Finn not to blame himself for Leif’s death as it is his fault as well; he adds that Thracia is in Finn’s hands and asks him to help its people. Finn affirms that he will do so if it helps him atone for the deaths of Quan and Leif.
In this scenario, Finn has the tragedy of Leif having died on his watch as well. He still goes back to Thracia to atone for his lieges whom he feels he failed, with that shortcoming always haunting him for the rest of his life...
------
Final thoughts: Finn draws similar parallels to Oifey and Shannan, the other two children of the first generation who return in the second generation, but he has to face even harder trials than them. Finn was faced with the herculean task of becoming one of the strongest crusaders without even carrying a drop of holy blood in his veins. He suffered the tragedy of much of his family being wiped out at Aed and had no time to stop and mourn because of the invasion by Thracia that came shortly thereafter; he then was forced to go on the run with Leif and make immense sacrifices in that regard so Leif could grow up to realize the dream that Quan had left behind. As he comes back to the game, he continues to be the loyal advisor to Leif that reins him in and holds him back from doing rash things that would otherwise spell disaster for the effort; there’s no denying how much of an impact Finn had. Yet he refuses to take credit for what he did, instead choosing to focus on his perceived shortcomings as he continues to try to improve. He never so much as even showed emotion up until when Altena spoke to him; here, Finn reached his breaking point and finally was able to take a well deserved and needed moment to release his emotions.
To summarize and bring everything back together, Finn is Fire Emblem’s answer to Job. Tragedy after tragedy, ordeal after ordeal is thrown at Finn, and the situation asks things of him that most people just wouldn’t be able to do under this pressure. Yet Finn shows no sign of breaking; he remains steadfastly committed to his goal and to accomplishing what his lords want to do, accomplishing the dream of uniting Thracia. It’s no surprise that in the nearly 25 years that Jugdral has existed, Finn has consistently been one of the most popular characters from this game, and it’s for these reasons why Finn is my personal favorite character in the series.
Thank you for reading this long awaited episode of Examining the Crusaders. Next time we are going to take a look at Finn’s (adopted/biological) daughter, Nanna, Nordion Princess and her substitute Jeanne. Until then!
